It is with profound sorrow, we lament the loss of Michael Latt, a genuine advocate, colleague, and friend who stood by my side on the steps of the CA State Capitol, in prison yards across Central Valley, at Black churches in Harlem and in the streets of Chicago and LA. Latt was a brother in the fight for justice, intentionally creating opportunities to amplify marginalized voices and uplift communities. His light radiated throughout our industry and generated massive impact in the hearts and minds of all those he encountered.
I will hold close the memories of our strategy sessions, historic productions, community celebrations and the ever-present debate about the credibility of your Top 5 R&B Singers of all time (cue Ginuwine)! Each of these experiences created a symphony of laughter, camaraderie, and the beautiful rhythm that was our friendship. While your physical presence is no longer with us, the echoes of our shared moments will forever live in my heart.
In times of dread, artists must never choose to remain silent. – James Baldwin
Let us recognize the failed systems that led to this tragedy and collectively reignite our commitment to love and justice by continuing to call for gun control and effective, equitable social services.
