The U.S. is the only nation in the world that sentences people to life without parole for crimes committed before turning 18. Currently, there are 50,000 people serving life without parole (LWOP). States like Connecticut are setting the trend for reform by passing legislation S.B. 796 that retroactively eliminates life-without parole sentences for juveniles.
